DAY OF MINDFULNESS

Join the monastics of Stream Entering Monastery for a relaxing and rejuvenating Day of Mindfulness - a day in which we come back home to ourselves, relax, and cultivate the energy of mindfulness together as a community.


Each Sunday is different - typically we begin at 9:15am with singing Dharma songs together, followed by Walking Meditation, Dharma Talk or Precept Recitation, Dharma Discussion, a vegetarian Mindful Lunch, and occasional Afternoon Activity (e.g. Total Relaxation). 

The 1st Sunday of the month we will recite the 14 Mindfulness Trainings, the 3rd Sunday of the Month we will recite the Five Mindfulness Trainings.

Mindful Conduct

Stream Entering Monastery is a monastic practice centre and during your time with us we ask that you help to nurture the peaceful and solid energy of this place

Practicing the Mindfulness Trainings / Intoxicants and Drugs Prohibited

·  Observe the five mindfulness trainings of protecting life, not taking what does not belong to you, refraining from sexual activity, practising mindful and compassionate speech, and refraining from intoxicants (alcohol, drugs for example) whilst on the property. Stream Entering is a completely non-smoking environment (including e-cigarette).

Dress Code

·  For everyone’s comfort, the dress code at Stream Entering is smart casual. You will find it helpful to bring clothes that are loose fitting and cover your knees and elbows so that you can easefully sit in meditation. The weather is quite changeable and you will find it helpful to bring a few layers.

​​Silence (or turn off) your device

·  The chance to practice together is very precious. In order to fully be here and benefit from the mindful energy here we ask that you minimise your use of electronic devices as much as possible

Compassionate Speech

·  Be aware of the suffering caused by engaging in unnecessary conversations about topics that may be uncomfortable or distressing for some (such as politics) etc.

What To Bring

  •  Weather is quite changeable, so it's helpful to dress in layers, bring a hat, umbrella and sturdy shoes. 

  • Bedding: If arriving by car, please bring your own sheets, pillowcases, and blankets/sleeping bags. This helps us conserve our limited rain and bore water.

  • No Guest WiFi - Bring a Telstra SIM as necessary.

 

On-site Donations

We welcome you to attend our Days of Mindfulness on a donation basis. There are donation boxes available in the Dining Hall and Meditation Hall, or you can click here to donate online.

Visitors for events are welcome to donate as they are called to and are able. Donations are warmly welcomed to support basic operational and monastic living costs and to support this monastery for future generations here in Australia.

COVID-safe Protocol

I agree to follow COVID-safe protocols, not attend if unwell or with respiratory symptoms, and inform the monastery to reschedule if I become ill.

Parking

There is ample parking. Once you arrive at the Brothers Hamlet, park in our Day Parking Lot - a large gravel lot on the right side with additional parking in designated grass area.


Public Transportation

We acknowledge that it is challenging to get here via public transportation. The nearest train station is Woodend Train Station which serves the V/Line Bendigo line, with hourly services to Melbourne (Southern Cross) and Bendigo, running through towns like Macedon and Sunbury; for real-time details, please use the V/Line Timetables page for master timetables and service changes. Trains typically run hourly, with early morning departures from around 5 AM.  Porcupine Ridge is a rural area, so you'll need to pre-book a taxi or use a rideshare service (like Uber, if available) for the remainder of the journey from Malmsbury Station, as there are no local buses covering that specific route.

Your personal information is kept confidential and is used only by the Stream Entering Caretaking Council for the purpose of the event/retreat that you have registered to attend. We do not share information with third-parties.
